PROJECTS

There are a variety of projects in process at Sanctuary Studios at any given moment. The work ranges from clothing design and graphics to furniture design and home decor; from art books and limited-edition publishing to interface and database design; from processes and product design to technology integration and building systems. We have no limits.

Some of the work produced at Sanctuary Studios is spun off into independently branded product lines which may be marketed directly to the public, or through distributors and dealers. Because some of our projects involve designing processes, protocols and procedures, the result may not be a product, but a process or service. In some cases, a new company may be formed to develop, market and sell the products or services that are originally developed and prototyped here.

Some of our artists, designers and affiliated entities are featured below. For more information, contact us.

Photo | Graphic | Image | Arts is five unstructured and unrepentant ruminations on art, vision, signs, symbols, graphic depiction and photographic imagery by author and educator Roy Montibon.

Both the foundational and advanced education of artists, designers and photographers are lacking. Oriented toward either technical training or critical theory, conventional arts education leaves many arts professionals unclear on the middle ground the core issues their professions are based upon. From the nature of perception; to communication as mind-to-mind sharing based on a set of ever-changing agreements and contexts; from the projection of meaning by the recipient; to the relevance lifespan of a work in the real world, these writings examine these interrelated issues.

Montibon Provenance International (MPI) has been engaged in R&D with a number of scientists at laboratories in New Mexico. MPI secures art, and antiquities from fraud, forgery, theft and counterfeit provenance and authenticity documentation. These problems have plagued the Art market for centuries. MPI is solving problems that no one has solved in 2,000 years.

MPI recently launched its Protect Sovereign Native Art Initiative. This initiative will help protect Native American artists and collectors of American Indian art from fraud, which is now international in scope. Using and developing some of the most advanced technologies in the world, MPI will provide new ways to identify, secure and certify the authenticity of artwork produced by living Native American artists.

Different areas of the global art trade each have their own challenges. Fraud, forgery, theft, and counterfeit documentation are four very different, yet interconnected challenges. MPI is developing a flexible menu of products and services to address the full range of art world issues. MPI customers will include Native American artists, contemporary artists, art dealers, collectors and museums.

STUDIOS NEW MEXICO

Studios New Mexico is a website that profiles live/work studios in New Mexico and the southwest.

For any artist, designer, photographer or musician, finding a truly great space to live, work and share your talents with the others can be a challenge. New Mexico is a unique challenge, despite the fact that New Mexico is well known as a state that many artists call home.

One of the properties featured is 127 Bridge Street — the original home of Royal Mastodon Society. Dozens of art exhibitions, talks and special events were held there, and the space was also used as a set for the Simon Pegg movie, Paul. 127 Bridge is now fully leased and is the new home for Serene Touch Spa.

If you have never experienced the joy of living and/or working in a large, loft-like studio space, prepare for a transformative experience.

ROYAL MASTODON SOCIETY

Shawna Wangseng: This too, is Real, Exhibiton Poster, Royal Mastodon Society
Royal Mastodon Society: NMHU BFA Exhibit: Shawna Wangseng, This too, is Real.

Royal Mastodon Society is an art space, special project workshop, research lab, design incubator, culture cauldron, showroom and event venue dedicated to the quest for the New American Incognitum in all of its terrible beauty -- as artistic metaphor, if not in actuality.

As such, RMS is part of an ancient line of inquiry: from Clovis Man scanning the horizon to the Greek belief in an emergent age of wisdom; from the pre- Renaissance ideal of Novus Mundi to Amerigo Vespucci's history-rending declaration; from American Indian ritual to the American Revolution and Thomas Jefferson's fixation on the "uncontrolled Monarch of the Wilderness" — not as a mere havoc-wreaking Grendel, but as the "icon of national identity for citizen's of the new republic*"; up to the present, rather tumultuous 21st Century, a strange Novus Mundi that is both very new and very old all at once. We find ourselves, once again, strangers in a very strange land, and the future is uncertain.
