Sanctuary Interior

Sanctuary Studios was born out of a dream to live and work in an historic building with real character. Something like a little red brick church. It also comes out of a philosophy that "home and studio" should literally be a sanctuary apart from the craziness of the world beyond. The studio, of course, would need to be located in a progressive, open, arts-friendly college town surrounded by beautiful countryside, clean air, clean water, spectacular lightning storms and billions of stars in the night sky.

It was a tall order, but after nearly two-years of painstaking research, such a town was found. That town is Las Vegas, New Mexico. The Authentic Las Vegas.

Home to Apaches and Comanches, Spanish explorers, Mexican settlers, frontier mountain-men, east-coast merchants, hard-riding cowboys, wild-west outlaws, tough-as-nails lawmen, railroad executives, Roosevelt's Rough Riders, nomadic road-trippers, Hollywood filmmakers, wandering bikers, lost vacationers and urban expatriates, Las Vegas is unique in it's history, culture and place in the American landscape.

The building itself is a small, classic New England-style red brick church, built in 1918 and added to in the 40's. It is located at the corner of an historic neighborhood that was built when the Santa Fe Railroad came to town.

An additional two years of renovation has yielded a studio and living quarters for three artists -- and a coterie of visiting designers, artists, musicians, producers and writers.

Renovations continue, but the studio is now up and running.

Sanctuary Studios is located in Las Vegas, New Mexico, a town with an officially designated New Mexico State Arts & Cultural District. Along with Silver City, Las Vegas was one of two cities so designated. Check back for updates on new work and upcoming shows from Sanctuary Studios.
