ROY MONTIBON

Roy Montibon, HSH_1c
Roy Montibon, HSH_1c, digital inkjet print on archival paper.

Roy is an artist who produces paintings, drawings, photography, installations and conceptual mixed-media work. He is also a creative director, art director, designer, image maker, inventor, educator and mentor who connects dots between creative process, experience design, science, technology, engineering, art and business.

Andy Warhol made this statement: "Being good in business is the most fascinating kind of art... working is art and good business is the best art". This is, strangely, a pre-cursor to the punk/DIY approach: forget about the agent, manager, handlers and record label and... do it yourself. Work hard and take responsibility for your own survival (consider how hard Henry Rollins has worked).

Although Roy didn't take Warhol's statement too literally, the thought made an impression on him as a young art student and was a factor in shaping his view on art in today's world. The challenge is to bring something to life, not as just an idea, but as a complex, functioning, coherent living entity that is self-sustaining... something that must compete for it's own significance and even very existence over time much in the same way that an organism in the wild must compete to survive.

Successful art — and business — is like biology. If it lives at all, and can survive long enough, it will evolve in ways that one may not anticipate.

Roy's work is focused on the mythic, memetic and spacial sources of culture; its development, evolution and fragmentation; and the subsequent rise and dissemination of discrete and recombinant micro-cultures. He is particularly interested in the role of imagery, location and context in identity development and cultural creation.

Roy's educational, mentoring and creative community interests also often meld technology with a distinctively cultural and recombinant micro-culture emphasis.

Rita-T, Abstract Blue Yellow", acrylic on canvas. Also available as a digital inkjet print on archival paper.

The abstract paintings of Rita-T come out of the inner depths of her life the pain of loss, beautiful memories, joy and sadness.

Rita-T, Abstract Black Silver
Rita-T, Abstract Black Silver, acrylic on canvas / inkjet print on archival paper.

"I paint what I am feeling at the moment", Rita explains. "My use of color is instinctive and intuitive. Rita-T's work evokes powerful feelings and elicits a contemplative awareness of the raw experience of life. I love the challenge of abstract painting. You are not looking at something and painting what you see. Abstract art comes from within. It's very direct, yet difficult to do".

LASCAUX ENSEMBLE

Lascaux Ensemble: Spectacular Clouds over the High Plains
Lascaux Ensemble: Spectacular Clouds over the High Plains.

Lascaux Ensemble is a travel photography collective founded by a group of artist and designer friends who love to travel.

Lascaux Ensemble explores the subtleties of regional identity, and how the physical environment — both expansive and intimate — contributes to a sense of place.

As Julie Tumblety, a Lascaux Ensemble founder and contributor puts it: "When traveling by air or across the open landscape, one really notices the continuity of things, the fact that borders don't really exist. Yet on a human level, traveling really emphasizes the divisions and differences that humans tend to play up: differences in languages, dialects, customs, clothing, beliefs and so on. The dichotomy of having these boundaries superimposed upon the smooth continuum of space is both strange and compelling".
